Archaeoastronomy
Study of the way in which the populations of the past understood the phenomenon of the sky, consists of a scientific method in which, through mathematical description, numerical predictions can be generated.
This map illustrates geography, geology, Flora fauna, villages, roads from use ritual, roads from use everyday, and places What centers ceremonial.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT
TETIMPA
In 1993, with the support of Dr. Jaime Litvak King (UNAM), the Mesoamerican Research Foundation awarded a grant for the purpose of carrying out archaeological excavations on the eastern slopes of Popocatepetl.

from Mesoamerica
The Popocatèpetl volcano had a violent and devastating eruption in the 1st century (50-100 AD) before the catastrophe, the town of Tetimpa was abandoned.
In 1992 the Mesoamerican Research Foundation denounced the existence of its vestiges, until then forgotten. For 1994 and 1995, with the endorsement of the National Institute of Anthropology and History, as well as the recommendation of Patricia Plunket and Gabriela Uruluela, it sponsored the archaeological investigations of the Tetimpa Project .

Along with the altars they found miniature vessels that are presumed to contain some sacred liquid, in addition they intentionally maintained a concentration of ash. Inside the chimneys there were also ash, obsidian fragments, and many small stones, even under an altar an isolated skull was found.

The dwellings of Tetimpa (100 BC - 50 BC) had in the center of the patio an altar with a fireplace that was dedicated to Popocatepetl: "Cerro que humea".

On the eastern slopes of Popocatepetl there are a deposit of lava (magma). An area of approximately 5 by 8 kilometers. Geological studies believe that this lava is from a long time ago.
However, where there is mining of this type of rock, and further down, corn grooves have been found with archaeological ceramic remains dating from the pre-classic period.

Some altars represent two hills, one higher than the other, Popocatepetl and possibly Teotón, or Teteolotitla; Both with their own fireplace topped with a stone face.

Hypothesis
Due to a volcanic eruption, a flow of magma descended in waves, with a depth of approximately 35 meters. In turn, volcanic bombs covered the surface of the hill / pyramid.
The Ceremonial Center was left in ruins and the pyramid was disfigured.
